Logan's accident and a very exhausting week.

WARNING: This may contain some grusom info, so if it's something that will make your stomach turn, skip the reading.

To make a long story short, last Monday afternoon Logan was sneaking outside through the "little" garage door where the other kids were playing (he was supposed to be on time out). Our A/C was on high which makes the garage door slam hard when the "big" garage door is open. Well, he pulled the door shut and in seconds, before he could do anything he had slammed his finger in the door; he jumped up and pushed open the door crying hysterically.

My sister Katey was a few feet away and I was upstairs putting laundry away. She saw him bleeding and rushed him up to the kitchen sink as I was racing down the stairs. I grabbed him and put his finger under the water thinking he'd cut himself...it took a split-second to realize that his fingertip was missing! My heart sunk for my little boy and immediately I felt my adrenalin kick in as well as worry and shock that we were really dealing with this trama. At that point I told my sister to get a towel quick and I put it on his finger applying pressure.

He continued to cry while I held him with his arm up, trying my best to comfort him. It was a blessing that my sister was with me, she went back and got his fingertip, put it in a bag of ice and gave Logan Tylenol as we rushed him to the car. My sister stayed with Caleb & Brook while my neighbor, Lori across the street rode with us keeping his arm elevated and singing primary songs with him while I drove 90 getting to the ER.
Jon met us there and was able to give Logan a blessing with the help of our Neighbor's husband (I am so grateful for the priesthood). We asked for a warm blanket and Logan was able to fall asleep in the wating room.

It seemed like we waited forever before we were seen. When we got back into a room the doctor there wasn't sure they could sew the tip back on, I insisted that she do everything to try. She told us that there was a Dr. in the hospital that just happened to be working that night and he was a specialist surgeon; and she would call him to see if he could help. 40 minutes later she returned with the news that the specialist definately wanted to sew it back on and felt that everything would be fine. We were so happy and relieved however, Logan was still in for more pain as they prepped his finger and numbed it. He fought back tears (and so did I knowing he was hurting and scared) as the nurses explained to him what they were going to do. He was very brave though and it was a blessing to get him some relief.

The Doctor who sewed his finger did a wonderful job and was so kind and calming.
The picture above is the night we came home, he was so exhausted. Logan has to wear this arm cast for two and a half weeks. Then we see the doctor to see if his fingertip fused back on, if it doesn't then they will have to put Logan out, take the tip off for good and reshape his finger which will result in his middle finger being a bit shorter. We have been praying that his fingertip will live and heal.
Through it all, Logan has stayed positive and continues to follow Dr's orders of elevating his arm and taking his meds.

Logan is used to the arm cast and has learned to do everything with his left arm. His energy and wanting to play certainly haven't ceased. Mom is tired from sleeping (or not sleeping) on the couch all week making sure his arm stays elevated.

Oh, it made me cry just reading it. I can't stand to think of children in real pain like that. It just makes me hurt. Give him a big hug from us.

Oh my. That is crazy! What a blessing that the specialist was there to sew it back on for him.

You asked about the trailer. It actually is our friends, he left it at our house last week.
We have motorcycles, but no snowmobiles. We love snowmobiles but we generally rent them b/c it is more cost effective.
We could never ride them enough in a winter to justify it and I would not want to feel like we had to.
Maybe when the boys are older we will get some older ones.
You guys should come up here this winter and go on a trip with us snowmobilng.
We will keep little Logan in our prayers!
